SCRATCH ANYWHERE – The MIXFADER – Bluetooth Portable Crossfader

On the Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas Cruise ship out in the middle of the Caribbean somewhere…

So I had to bust out my portable…

I’m loving the movement and direction of Portablism scene. The whole point is to scratch anywhere and have fun!

Mixfader has added ot the scene by creating a bluetooth wireless crossfader and now you can use timecode vinyl

w/o a soundcard like Serato or Traktor!

Using the Edging Scratch App for iPhone along w/ my Vestax Handytrax and Mixfader…

(Since my vestax doesn’t have a USB output, I had a RCA to USB converter attached).

Diving into DJing on the Disney Fantasy

On the Disney Fantasy Cruiseship, I get to share my knowledge of DJing to the teens onboard at the teen only club – The Vibe. We usually have a regular 2 turntable setup w/ a mixer and teach the teens Scratching… Well, in my past experiences in teaching DJing and scratching to newbies, I found that after a couple of minutes they tend to lose interest.

So by implementing my Traktor Kontrol S4 and laptop, I get to relate to the kids w/ the songs that they’re currently listening to and show them a real-life scenario of how I would mix, scratch and manipulate them by showing them the basics.

It basically went from a couple of minutes of interest into over an hour and not enough time to teach them DJing…

Now, if it was up to me, I would have them learn on turntables… but w/ the heavy hands of newbies resulting in constant skipping of the record and other issues w/ turntables… I found that we could progress much faster in the given time that was allowed…

Native Instruments Traktor Z2/Maschine demo

I decided to demo the greatness of Native Instruments using the Kontrol Z2 mixer, Maschine MK2 as a midi controller using custom mapping by DJ Soundstorm – www.djsoundstorm.de.

I tried to incorporate all the different scratching/mixing techniques while using some of the cool features of Traktor (Remix decks, Loop Recorder, etc.)  This feels like my go to setup as Remix Decks are here to stay, I was just trying to find the right midi controller – Maschine mk2, Kontrol F1 to be comfy  with.  This makes it crazy fun to remix on the fly and be more spontaneous while spinning…  Stay tuned for more cool videos!

Please feel free to comment, like & subscribe!

I do not own any of the songs played, music used for demonstration purposes only.

How to control your DJ set wirelessly from iPhone

In this edition of Beyond Basics Tech Tips, I do a live demo of using iTeleport (iPhone app) to control the DJ set wirelessly away from the set at the bar… Helpful for DJs when you need to be away from the set, like going to the bathroom, chilling at the bar, not having to rush back to switch the song…

Rane TTM57SL Serato Mixer – Customize Midi Mapping Groups 1

Some basic tips I found that not all DJs who own the TTM57SL know that you can customize the 1st 5 groups of the mixer to what ever you like.  Leaving group 6 defaulted to the built in effects.  I share my custom mappings and why I choose them.

I also show a quick tip on how to stay in one group and launch the popular “Echo” effect by using your Flex FX buttons.

I’m interested to see what other DJs map their mixers for… Please share your tips, add comments, Like & Subscribe!

This is one of many Beyond Basic Tutorials that I’m contributing to the DJ community…  Check out my website – www.DJOllie.net for more info, tips & tricks, and anything DJ related…
